Have you made yourself Timeless?

I believe the greatest asset we have been blessed to possess is the ability to think. Our minds are still the secret of which science still marvels and cannot find its depth. We are all diverse in the ways we think and use our minds. The other asset we have is time. Time is a different asset. Unlike our mind with its variations, time is the same for all, with exception of the total time each of us spends on this side of life.

It is the combination of how we use these assets that determine the results of our life. Time is the asset I would like to speak about in this writing. Allow me to put forth my definition of time. Time is measuring durations (beginning and ending) of and between events in eternity. Simply, it is the measurement of space in which things change. The space between when the sun comes up and when it goes down; we use seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years to measure these spaces. This was done so we could coordinate events requiring interaction.
How we use time defines who we are and what we value! It is probably the easiest thing to squander because of the drive to satisfy our greatest hungers. Those hungers known as food, shelter, affection, recognition, and acceptance are ones we deal with throughout life.

Though I was raised to live a principled life, time was spent attempting to satisfy these hungers. Some will be able to relate to what I have just stated. It was me, me, and me. The real trick was when I thought I was doing for another it was still me. Others get with the program earlier and understand life was not meant to satisfy just your hungers. Yet many times even when we are living responsibly we still may or may not be truly using time in a valuable manner. The idea is that at some point we mature to understand that continuing to satisfy these hungers is not very satisfying. We feel the pull toward needing to make more of our lives. We truly began to learn that our lives are called upon by that which animates (our spirit) us, in connection with time, to do something of value and not just to live to satisfy our hungers.

There is continual conflict between spending time in self-satisfaction and in striving to use time to create value. Creating value with our time in others is how we memorialize ourselves. It is important to look at what has been deposited in us by others and then honor their time of value by passing it on to someone else. We are still satisfying hunger, but it is not our own. The idea here is not to prove ourselves self-less, unselfish, or virtuous. It is recognition of value that is deposited in us, being redeposited in someone else in a way that makes it continually pass to others.

This may seem philosophical or theoretical. Here are examples of two persons that portray what I am saying. The first one speaks to time use in creating value though it is not so clear what was originally deposited in that person. They have lived in a thankless situation yet the desire to create value is in their heart. The second is a person who grew up from an early age does “good” things, receives satisfaction, and yet the realization is that time has not truly been used to create transferable value.

The first person is one who as a child did not grow up with any deposits of value. They so craved to be filled. All effort is just spent on self-satisfaction. It may seem that as time goes on this will be their state until they leave this life. But do not count this person out to soon. It is amazing how one act of kindness can create a fire in the heart of someone who would have been written off. That kindness becomes magnified to the extent this person uses time as a partner to memorialize value by placing it in someone else, who passes it on resulting in time truly being an asset that is witness to a timeless value continuing.

The second person grows up with all the supports and satisfactions being met. Yet they are unappreciative of what they have been given. They seem aimless, full of potential, life, aspirations, and promise. Yet time is a witness to no deposits being made into others. This one should not be written off as well. Sometimes hitting the bottom of life causes someone to remember how the value of time and life. This starts a turn around and begins the planting of many seeds. Time will testify of this person’s use of it as an asset.

What I am asking you to consider is how time is spent in your interaction with others. Don’t forget time is meant to pass on value into others lives without the promise of any return. Satisfy your hungers, live life to the fullest. Yet make sure you don’t forget to use time to seed deposits of value into others. When you leave this life, time will carry on your memorial through others. You have now made yourself timeless.

Be kind even when it’s out of style! Be firm even when it breaks your heart! Be loving when no love is returned! Be consistent when promises are broken. Be encouraging when you feel like giving up.

Share with me some of the ways you are using the asset of time to leave deposits of value in others!

Hi! My name is Vonzel Sawyer. I am a husband, father, and grandfather. I started blogging to share from my experience, knowledge, wisdom, instruction, and understanding to help persons maxamize and magnify the positive in their life. That is why I used the terms "maximum" and "magnification" and combined them into a single word "maxafication". Just like something can be magnetized or winterized. I want to impact people to live largely and fully each day!
